|Abstract:||Semiconductor optical amplifiers of various lengths are characterized in relation to the four-wave mixing (FWM) properties, followed by the implementation of wavelength converters based on the cross-gain modulation and FWM. The relative efficiencies of the converters are analyzed and the comparative eye diagrams are discussed. The measured Q-factor shows that some of these converters can be used in systems operating up to 10 Gbits/s. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.|
